Motorhomes are one of the most popular types of RVs available since they have their own engines and offer spacious accommodations. There are three different classes of motorhomes that you’ll need to know about and understand before you select the one that meets your needs. This breakdown of the pros and cons of each class should help you decide on the right model.

Class A Motorhomes

Class A Motorhomes are some of the biggest RVs on the road. These motorhomes are consistently the most luxurious and well-appointed RVs you can find. Class A motorhomes are great for some travelers, and have some real drawbacks for others. Here are some of the pros and cons you can encounter traveling in a Class A motorhome.

Pros: As we said above, Class A motorhomes are some of the largest RVs on the road. This comes with some awesome perks. First off, you’ll have tons of room to spread out, making these great for traveling families. Class A motorhomes also come with more amenities, which include more generous kitchen setups, extra storage, and more comfortable furnishings.

Cons: The biggest downside of a Class A motorhome is when you get on the road. These coaches can be tricky for a driver to navigate, especially if you’re not accustomed to driving a larger rig. Backing into a campsite can also be difficult (although many Class As now come standard with backup cameras). If you love the amenities and features of a Class A, you should be ready to dedicate plenty of time to practicing your driving!

Class B Motorhomes

Class B motorhomes are the smallest motorhomes available. While this can lead to some big advantages over the bulk of a Class A, there may be some people for whom a Class B motorhome isn’t suitable.

Pros: Class B motorhomes are very easy to drive. Just about anyone who’s driven a van or a truck will feel perfectly comfortable maneuvering and parking these motorhomes. When you’re not using your motorhome, you don’t have to rent out a storage bay to keep it safe, as most Class Bs will fit comfortably in any driveway.

Cons: Class B motorhomes are quite compact. While they often feature many of the amenities of larger motorhomes, these features come in miniature, so you’ll have a smaller stove and smaller bathroom, along with less storage. While this is perfect for a solo traveler, or even a couple, taking a family trip in a Class B motorhome can start to feel crowded quickly.

Class C Motorhomes

Class C motorhomes are a balance between the amenities of a Class A and the compact design of a Class B. Here are some of the challenges and advantages you’ll likely encounter if you travel in a Class C motorhome.

Pros: A Class C motorhome is fairly easy to drive for most people, as these vehicles are typically about the size of a moving van. Class C motorhomes range in size and amenities so you can choose between an opulent luxury model or a more basic one to fit your standard of comfort.

Cons: The major drawbacks of a Class C come from their size. While they’re not always as large as a Class A, they don’t have the same “go-anywhere” flexibility of a Class B (so don’t try and hit the drive-thru).
